This is a Buffy/Angel vid. Sort of. It’s also a humor vid. Definitely. It is positively a very clever, very fun vid, and it’s put together with a very sure hand. The basic premise? Angel is infected. This has ramifications for his relationship with Buffy. Serious, serious, ramifications. Hee! Highly recommended, particularly for those with a twisted sense of humor. Like me!
**Note- it looks like the vid page has been pulled at the moment. I don’t know if it’s coming back or if there’s another way to access the vids. Anyone know what’s up, drop me a comment or use the contact form. I’ll remove the rec in a few days if no new link/vidder contact info becomes available.
This is the funniest vid I’ve ever seen! The basic premise? Angel is gay. Very, very gay! The song is hilarious, and provides a brilliant framework for the video. However, the vid goes beyond simply matching clips to words and it tells a bunch of ‘mini-stories’, each set to the different stanzas of the song. It’s a series of scenes from a day in Angel’s very gay life and it just works SO brilliantly. I can watch this video over and over again and keep spotting new things. And may I just say- DAMN that show is gay! I mean, when they have guys dancing around in flames with fire hydrants erupting in giant geysers of fluid.... Sweet lord- this is just so funny!
This is my favorite Buffy vid, and probably always will be. It’s an exploration of season 7 Spike, and while it doesn’t exactly follow the show’s chronology, it feels like it does. I love it for the song choice, the clip choice, the very subtle effects that tie song to lyrics and an overall sense of mood and theme that just perfectly matches the way I see this character and his journey. This is a subtle gut punch of a story, and I never get tired of trying to work out all of the nuances that make this vid work so very well for me. (Note- this vid works great as a sequal to ‘Mad World’, so you might want to check that one out first.)
Evil is fun and sexy and great to dance to! At least it is in this effects laden depiction of ‘Dark Willow’ and her adventures in magic. When I watch this vid, I always end up bouncing around in my chair like I’m having a seizure and then I decide that I REALLY want to become a witch! I, too, want to dress in black, shoot sparks out my fingers, and lock annoying boys in cages so they can dance for my pleasure. DANCE BITCHES, DANCE! And they better not stop until I say it’s okay! Hm- this vid has powers. Evil powers. Have I mentioned how much fun evil powers are? This is an shiny, sparkly technical effect stuffed vid done right!
This is this first video that made me see vidding as an art form capable of transcending the source material in the same way really good fanfic does. It’s largely an exploration of season 6, focusing on Spike. I love it because it seems to capture the mood of the season, at least from my perspecitive. Everything is falling apart and nothing makes any sense. “I find it kind of funny, I find it kind of sad, the dreams in which I’m dying are the best I ever had.” Yea, that sums it up pretty well for me.
Guh! I came away from this vid with three main thoughts: AtS is a stunningly beautiful show; Angel the vampire is a complete and utter badass; Luminosity is a freak’n maestro when it comes to weaving music, lyrics, visuals and artistic effect together. I don’t know AtS well enough to completely follow the story here (lots of season 4), but the narrative structure does keep me in the game and I love the depiction of an intense, dark hero. The ending is a killer- even without much AtS background. I was never hugely into Angel on Buffy, but if he’d been presented more like this, I would have been. Damn, this is just a really powerful and attractive portrayal of the character that also shows off the cinematography of the show to very nice effect.
This Giles focused vid just gets me in the heart. I enjoy it for its characterization of Giles and its cute premise. You know, Giles really did end up listening to everyone else’s problems, and you can’t blame the guy for wanting to get a little ‘me’ time for himself. The quirky, literal interpretation of many of the lyrics is fun, the kids’ reactions to Gile’s request cracked me up, and solid editing pulls it together in a satisfying manner. Not a perfect vid and not a technological wonder, but a hell of a lot of fun and a must see vid for Giles fans!

Oh, yessssss. This video kicks ass and takes name- and so does the featured character Lila. This is just such a clever concept and a brilliant execution and a big giant shitload of FUN! This is a vid I watch over and over to catch all of the nuances. The clip choice is bloody brilliant and I would have NEVER thought this song was vidable. Watching this makes me despair of ever being a really great vidder- but it makes me glad other folks are!
This Giles focused vid leaves me with a smile on my face every time I watch it- and I’ve watched it plenty. It simply ‘fits’ my view of the character (and the perky song works too). Two words of warning on this one- 1. I didn’t really like it on first viewing. It has lots of clips where the characters are talking and I find that madly distracting. On second viewing, I figured out that the song lyrics were pretty much meant to be said by Giles. It’s not close enough to be actual lip synching, but I think you’re just sort of supposed to go with it. If you go with it, it’s screamingly funny. 2. Part of my love for this is because it is Giles focused and it’s an interpretation of the character that strikes a chord with me. I do rather see him as soldiering on in a ‘Don’t mind me, I’m just going to sit in the corner and bleed for a moment. Be right with you.’ sort of way. If that makes any sense. Which it doesn’t, so whatever. Anyway- pay attention to the lyrics and understand Giles is actually SAYING them and this vid is a great big ball of fun.

This haunting Buffy video focuses on the whole cast through season 2. It has a slow, dreamy feel that matches the song, but what I love best is the theme- and how strongly it comes through. It’s all about Buffy and Giles and the Scoobs and how very vulnerable they all were. I see it as an exploration of both the things that make them happy and strong (mainly their relationships with each other) and how at the same time, those are the things through which they can be hurt the most. Poignant. Very.
This is a very pretty, very clever look at Angel. If Angel were a slut. Which he is. Technical brilliance, great clips, the perfect melding of clips to song- all of it combines to produce one of my favorite videos. Plot? We don’t need no stinking plot!
