Most of the form contains your usual information- username, password, etc. It’s important that you use a VALID email address when registering as new members must confirm their email address before their membership becomes active. The email address you use is not shown to the public, but it is used for all messages originating from media-cow. This includes comment notification, dead link reporting, and any information entered into the contact form. In short- no valid email, no membership!
There are some additional fields devoted to Livejournal users. Media-cow makes it easy to cross-post entries to your livejournal account. In order to do this, it needs a little extra information:
Default livejournal name- This is your livejournal username- for example, mine is ‘forked’.
Picture #1 - The keyword for one of your LJ icons- for example, mine is ‘eye’.
Picture #2 - The keyword for another LJ icon, just in case you like to switch your pictures out for different posts!
Lastly, there’s a dropdown where you can select your country. This is just a fun little detail- and for those who post articles to Media-cow, you’ll see a little flag representing the country selected on your user profile page.
After submitting the registration form, you will receive an email asking for confirmation. Simply click on the link provided in the email and you should be able to log in. After logging in, you might want to go in and add to your user profile- see another FAQ on how to do that!
If you do not receive the confirmation email, it is possible it tripped a spam filter or otherwise got lost in cyber space. Use the contact form on the site to alert me of any such problems. [HIDE]
