While this fairly lengthy future fic really isn’t my type of story, I did get a real kick out of it. It’s set in Metropolis, with the ‘kids’ in college. As the story kicks off, Clark goes over to hang with Lex and is confronted with the happy news that his friends are finally starting to come around and see what a great guy Lex is. In fact, Chloe seems to be as comfortable hanging out with Lex as Clark is. Hm. Maybe this isn’t such happy news! Yep, I do love me some jealous Clark, and we get a big dose of it in this tale.
Clark would have killed for this to happen five years ago. Now he just wanted to kill.
Which only made him feel instantly guilty because those sentiments weren’t completely true. He didn’t want to kill Chloe. Just, maybe, stuff her into a dark closet for a few years until she didn’t have any more ideas about horning in on his Lex.
Snerk. So Clark, big gay drama queen that he is, throws a passive aggressive hissy fit that leaves Lex thinking he has the hots for Chloe. Lex, being Lex, attempts to give Clark what he wants. Since Clark has just figured out he wants Lex, this results in a very confused Clark and an amused Chloe. It’s all rather cute and sweet and there are some truly funny lines in this story. Grant you, the premise is every bit as ‘soap opera’ as it sounds, but it was still fun. Then again, I get a kick out of petulant, doofy Clark. Chloe was also a blast in this fic- seriously one of its highlights. On the negative side, there’s a lot of exposition. A whole lot. It bogs the read down a bit, and dulls some of the wit and humor. This probably would have worked better after a heavy edit to pare it down.
All in all- fun, sweet, sappy, and well worth slogging through the denser bits of exposition. Underneath it all, this story has a very sweet heart.
