This is a short fic, barely more than a vignette, yet one that packed a serious punch. You need to pay attention when you read it, and you need to read it before you read this- just know, it’s short, Snape focused, and has a dark undertone you won’t notice until it’s done. [READ MORE]
Okay, it starts off nothing special- a well written bit of potions brewing that I skimmed over the first time. What’s relevant is that the potion requires the sacrifice of memories in order to gain a brief glimpse into the future. In other words, Snape sacrifices the last 16 years’ worth of memories in order to see one year into the future. The trade results in an unforeseen ending, one based on a rather interesting paradox. Like I say, just a short bit, but it caught me off guard and I really did like the idea. I’m not so certain Albus and Severus should have been so seemingly oblivious when it came to the possible consequences of the potion, and it’s a plot point I’d have liked to see addressed.
