Where No Mutant Has Gone Before (The Split Infinitive Remix) - Full Article

Alara Rogers
[Added: 07/31/04 | Gen: Xavier Riker Q] Rec it? No

Part of the ‘Remix Challenge’, this is a damn nifty bit of story.  It’s based on the fact that the X-Men’s Charles Xavier and Star Trek’s Captain Picard are both played by the same actor.  The author takes that idea (first expressed in the drabble that this story remixes) and runs with it.  At the start of the story, Xavier realizes something is very wrong- or very right!  He’s standing up!  Given that the man is paralyzed, this is something of a shock.  Even more of a shock is the fact he’s surrounding by unfamiliar people who insist on calling him ‘Captain Picard’.  It seems Xavier and Picard have swapped places, and this fairly short read hashes out how that might have happened via Xavier’s pov.  I really, really like the fic and the ideas it brings forth- and I thought the way the possible explanations for the swap was very nifty.  I also loved Xavier’s reaction to the new world he finds himself in.  The only reason I’m not rec’ing it- I want more story.  This is the start of one hell of a good story, but I want to see it played out.  I want to see how the X-Men react to their new Professor.  I want to see how Picard reacts to the chaotic world he’s been thrust into.  To sum- hell of a story idea and what’s written is very compelling.  I’d just like to see the whole story laid out.

[Added: 08/01/04 | Slash: Kirk/Spock ] Rec it? Hell yea!

Hee!  This is an OLD one that I finally dug up a link to.  It’s a short little fic, alternately titled ‘If My Aunt From Minnesota Wrote Fanfic’.  You know the old cliche- the two guys get trapped in a cabin/cave and nature takes its course?  Well, add in a dose of pon farr and then pretend the whole thing is being told to you by a slightly tipsy Minnesota grandma with a way thick accent and you’ll get- this.  It’s the style that makes this one such a hoot!  One of the best things I’ve ever read.  “So what do ya say there, Jim? I need an answer on the double. Can ya help me out here?” “Ya, you betcha.” It’ll take you 5 minutes to read, and whether you like the show or not, I promise you’ll get a chuckle out of it!
