Funny, funny fic (though not a ‘humor’ fic) told with a crapload of style!  This is really a cliche fic that kicks off with the guys ending up in enemy hands and getting dosed with truth serum.  Turns out, the truth is they want to shag the daylights out of each other!  Actually, they ‘take one for the team’ in an effort to ferret out an UNCLE mole, but the truth serum didn’t hurt.

What I liked about this mid-sized story is the style- the author has a really clean writing style, a flair for humorous dialog, and an appealing approach to the characters.  This is virtually angst free stuff, and for once, I really liked that.  I’ve read a lot of stories where one or both of the guys angsts about their attraction or the possible ramifications of a relationship and this was nice change of pace.  I’m going to check out this author’s other work- her flair for writing beats a lot of pro fic I’ve read.  Good stuff.

Awww!  That was cute.  It’s a crack_van rec, not very long, premised on the idea that Illya took off after a missing scientist one day and just disappeared for almost a year.  Now he’s back at UNCLE, but it doesn’t quite feel like ‘home’.  Hopefully, his new mission to meet up with Solo and Solo’s new partner Mark Slate will help him feel more welcome.  On the other hand, Illya may not be too happy about Napoleon having a new partner!

This fic did leave me with a happy glow- I like the idea that ‘home’ for Illya is wherever Solo is.  The writing is also solid and nicely detailed.  I like how the author paid attention to the little things that might have changed while Illya was gone.  Strong characterizations, too.  Overall, a very nice fic.  However, it was a bit short for my tastes and I had a problem with the premise- that Illya could be off running around after a missing scientist for that long without being able to make some kind of contact- and that Solo wouldn’t have been out there hunting him down.  Don’t get me wrong- I could be convinced that that is how things happened.  But I’d have to be convinced- as it was, it was just felt a little ‘off’.  Still, well worth the read.

Well, I was looking for HP fic tonight, but I found this crack_van rec and decided to give it a shot.  Do you like phone sex?  Would you be surprised to find out Napoleon likes phone sex?  Nope, me neither.  Illya, however, hadn’t really thought on the matter much.  Silly boy!

This is a fairly short pwp that kicks off with an injured Illya lying in bed.  Alone.  Napoleon is off on a mission with a replacement partner and Illya doesn’t like that even one little bit.  So he sits in bed.  Alone.  Fuming.  Making pornographic origami figures.  LOL, I actually quite liked the first half of this read.  It has a very nice characterization of Illya and a light comic touch.  Then it has the aforementioned phone sex- which gives us some interesting insights on both men’s characters.  Cute read.  Not substantial and no action/adventure.  But cute.

This is a well written, fairly lengthy story that finds the guys on a mission to obtain a computer password from a villainous scientist.  Fortunately, it seems the scientist in question likes boys.  A lot.  So, one of our intrepid duo will have to play the ‘honey’ to bait the trap.  Napoleon is more than willing to give it a shot- only to get shot down!  Illya, whose preference for men is known to both his partner and the agency, has better luck.  Solo isn’t pleased- not at being shown up by his partner in the ‘romance’ department and especially not at the thought of his partner… well, romancing!  Will the men from UNCLE beat thrush to the computer password?  Will Illya get laid- and if so, by whom?  Action, suspense… well, actually mostly a bit of humor, nice dialog, lots of jealousy and intimacy issues, a great friendship vibe and, well, some sex- that’s what to expect from this one!  Good at what it does, and I generally liked the characterizations, but there wasn’t enough on the action/adventure side to grab me.  It all seemed kind of predictable.

Oh, this one looked good!  A nice long chunk of story that kicks off with Illya getting tortured!  Solo is quick to the rescue, and a bit surprised to find his partner spread-eagle and hard as a rock.  Illya is more disconcerted- seems he found himself breaking when exposed to pleasure, whereas pain is something he’s always been able to withstand.  Missions come and go, and Solo tries to give Illya some space to rebuild his sense of control, but eventually a third party has to be brought in.  This is an OC, a female psychiatrist and sort of ‘sex therapist’ who Solo has had occasion to go to himself (and doesn’t that bit of info leave Illya curious!).  Turns out both guys have some issues to work through, and they manage to do so, while still taking out a particularly nasty villain.

Overall- well written, the characters worked for me well enough, but it was more about the guys dealing with ‘inappropriate’ feelings for each other than it was about the missions.  In short, not enough action/adventure for me, and what there was of it tended to be glossed over in favor of the relationship stuff.  Solid read, just not my type of story.

Oh!  A good, solid, action-adventure gen story.  Yea!  This mid-sized read is pretty much a case file- Mark Slate is missing and UNCLE fears he’s gone over to THRUSH.  Illya is sent to find out the truth.  Illya doesn’t come back.  Napoleon?  Not a happy camper.  Ultimately, Solo, April Dancer and an old friend of Illya’s are sent to find out what has happened with Mark Slate, the lethal virus he was investigating, and- oh yea, pick up Illya if they happen to run across him!  A well written, solid story.  It wasn’t particularly unique (well, aside from stronger writing than most), but it was fun and it did a nice job recognizing the importance of the bond between Illya and Solo.

Huh.  A crack_van rec.  Mid-sized read.  Honestly, I thought it pretty much boiled down to a pwp- which we all know ain’t my thing.  Anyway, the gist of the story, Napoleon and Illya routinely hook up for some hot sex, but they only do so through role playing.  The story is basically one night of such play.  There is a bit about how for Napoleon, even ‘Napoleon’- the suave, sophisticated spy- is a role, and Illya’s goal is to break down that one last barrier between them.  Um- but really, it’s mostly just sex.

This mid-sized read had an interesting premise- Illya on his own, wounded and trapped behind enemy lines with a pretty girl who he may just love.  Unfortunately, a great big chunk of the action is handled through a big exposition dump at the beginning of the story.  After that, Napoleon shows up, helps send Illya the girl on their way, but gets captured for his efforts.  A guilt stricken Illya wakes up days later, intent on getting his partner out.

Eh.  Neat idea, with remarkably little action actually occurring in the story.  While well written, I pretty much guessed where it was going withing the first few minutes.  I didn’t particularly buy either Illya’s angst over leaving Napoleon behind, nor his possible love for the woman.  Overall, neat idea, but it seemed like the interesting details were glossed over.  Needed more ‘showing’ and less ‘telling’.
