This short story gifts us with one of my favorite Lex characterizations. It begins with a familiar scene- Lex in a wrecked car. Stuck in the snow, bruised and battered, Lex reflects on what he wishes, what he regrets, what he is. The dialogue, particularly the early internal dialogue, is flawlessly executed. You’ll feel as if you’re in Lex’s skull. It’s a dark place, but the wry, acerbic wit makes it an interesting visit. Does Lex get rescued? If so, by whom? That’s kind of a ‘no duh’ there, and the second half of this story is simply sweetness as the boys snuggle, fear, confess, and scrump like bunnies. And in the end- everybody will get hot chocolate! Yea! Go read it!
