amanuensis1 [Added: 03/29/04 | Snape Harry ]Oh, this is a bad, bad, evil fanfic. I recommend you go read it right away!! It’s a Dark!Harry fic, set after Voldemort’s defeat. Harry is the new man in charge, and he’s not willing to let anyone defy his rule. The story is patterned after ‘Henry V’, and while you need no familiarity with Shakespear (or history) to enjoy the story, part of my love for this one is rooted in my admiration for the brilliant job the author does of drawing parallels. Right from the beginning, when ‘The Heirs of Slytherin’ send Harry the gift of a snitch (a la France and the tennis balls), you KNOW that this fic was aptly titled. It’s just so bloody cool to watch the whole thing unfold- how old friends must fit into a new world order, betrayals and vengeance, the freaking owlery, the price of peace… Jeesh- it just all blew me away.
Now, even without the ‘Henry V’, I’d dig this fic for the Snape characterization. I really enjoy the unique nature of his relationship with this new ‘dark Harry’. And while reading along, waiting to get to the Snape goodness, I also enjoyed the thoughtful portrayals of Sirius, Ron and Hermione. This world, it’s a little twisted, a little off- but it’s a real pleasure to read. I love a clever, well written story that does something different, and this fic definitely fits the bill.
